Title: PTSD in Cardiac Populations: Implications for Cardiac Rehabilitation in Psychological Treatment

Attendees will learn the diagnostic criteria for Acute Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as the prevalence rates of PTSD in varying cardiac events. Common response styles of trauma patients will be identified and attendees will learn how this impacts patient engagement and patient interactions in the healthcare setting. Attendees will learn recommended treatment for traumatic anxiety disorders and learn how rehabilitation program may play a valuable role in treatment en route to overcoming the behavioral impact of trauma.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn the diagnostic criteria for Acute Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  2. Identify the prevalence rates of PTSD across a variety of cardiac events
  3. Learn the recommended treatment for trauma and see implications for cardiac rehabilitation as a component of recovery from traumatic cardiac events.
