Title: Live Webcast: Integrating Tobacco Cessation into Routine Care – Taking a Comprehensive Approach To Treatment

Speakers: Brenna VanFrank, MD, MSPH

Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States and is directly associated with one in four cardiovascular disease-related deaths. Yet, effective treatments for tobacco use and dependence are largely unutilized and less than 10% of persons who smoke quit successfully in a given year.
In this webinar, participants will gain an understanding of epidemiologic patterns of cessation behaviors, the importance of approaching treatment with a chronic disease model, and a variety of clinical and public health strategies to support cessation. Approaches to integrating treatment of tobacco use and dependence into routine care will additionally be discussed. Participants will be introduced to the new Million Hearts Tobacco Cessation Change Package, which provides practical strategies, tools, and resources for tobacco treatment integration.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
Describe the treatment approach to tobacco use and dependence
Identify at least three strategies for integrating tobacco treatment into routine clinical care
Understand both clinical and public health strategies that support cessation
